Liberty got back on the winning track and what better place to do it then Lexington VA home to the VMI Keydets. Brock Smith threw for two TDs and Rashad Jennings added yet another 100 yard performnce to his stellar LU career as the Flames won 38-26. With the loss by this week's opponent (more on that in a minute), the Flames claimed their second consecutive outright Big South Conference football championship. The focus now changes. Liberty still has an outside chance at making the postseason even with two losses so far. But to make that a reality they need to win their last two games, which moves us to this week:

The meaning of this game changed last weekend after Gardner Webb lost to Coastal Carolina 23-18. If the Runnin Bulldogs had pulled out the victory, then this game basically would have been for all the marbles (just like last year). That does nto mean that the Flames can relax any. Gardner Webb may not be able to play for the conference title anymore but they can still play the role of spoiler for the Flames' playoff hopes. Devin Campbell is the major catalyst for this team. He has yet to throw an INT on the season but has thrown for 9 TDs. Phillip Peoples is the leading rusher having gone for 583 yards and 6 TDs in his 115 carries.
The Flames know how important this game is. As a friend of mine of the Liberty "FlameFans" message board "JDUB" said, this team is hit or miss. If the team that very nearly knocked off Georgia Tech shows up at Williams Stadium, we could be in for a dogfight (pun not intended). If the team that lost to Tennessee Tech, Sam Houston State and Charleston Southern shows up...the Flames could roll right over them. I think the Flames take the win because they dont look past this team.
